Arena renamed 'Young Voices Arena' for the day

29 Feb 2016

Manchester Arena is to be renamed 'Young Voices Arena' today to celebrate Young Voices' 20th anniversary.

The occasion also sees the arena welcome over 200,000 local school children since the popular schools choir first played the Manchester venue 19 years ago.

James Allen, General Manager for Manchester Arena, said: "29 February is always a special day and it's great timing that Young Voices' first Manchester show falls on this extra Leap Year day. This presents us with the perfect opportunity to celebrate their 20th anniversary by renaming the arena on this special day. We're therefore delighted to announce that Manchester Arena will be renamed Young Voices Arena for the duration of Monday 29 February."

Ben Lewis, Managing Director for Young Voices, added: "We are proud to announce that we have brought Young Voices to Manchester arena no less than 27 times since we landed in the UK 19 years ago. The Manchester venue holds special memories for us as they hosted our very first UK Young Voices concert so it seems fitting that we will end our 20th anniversary there and have the arena named after us for one day is fantastic!"

Manchester Arena has announced today's name change to mark the first of four Young Voices nights at the venue which will see more than 30,000 local children perform at the 21,000 capacity venue.

Artists due to perform at the Young Voices Arena today include Laura Wright, The Beatbox Collective & Tom Billington. Alexandra Burke will be closing the 2016 Young Voices show this Thursday with a one night only appearance to help celebrate the 20th Anniversary.
